Science answers with only the effect, not the cause. Growth, adaptation, reproduction; these are all effects of life, but what is the cause. Why do we go on living if science says the only reason is sex?
Religion answers with irrelevancies. Theories about what we should do to stay alive. But this is nowhere close to answering the real question.
One of my favorite answers is that what defines us as alive is our existence in the memories of others. The problem is; if we exist only in the memories of others, how are we here when no one else is looking?
